CYD BEGINNER GUIDE • PLESK

Install WordPress.

Two clear ways to launch WordPress from your CYD hosting account: the recommended WP Toolkit method and a complete manual installation.

Before you begin: confirm that your domain is added to Plesk. If files already exist in httpdocs, create a verified backup before changing or removing anything.

METHOD 01 • WP TOOLKIT

The fastest way to install WordPress.

Recommended for complete beginners. Labels can vary slightly by Plesk version, but the workflow remains the same.

Sign in to Plesk

Open the Plesk login link supplied with your CYD hosting account. Enter your Plesk username and password.

TipYour Plesk login is separate from the WordPress administrator account you will create later.

Open WP Toolkit

From the left navigation, choose WordPress. In some Plesk layouts, you may first open Websites & Domains and then choose WordPress.

Select Install to begin a new installation.

Choose the domain and path

Select the domain where WordPress should appear. Leave the installation path blank when you want the website at yourdomain.ca.

Enter a folder such as blog only when you intentionally want yourdomain.ca/blog/.

Avoid accidental subfoldersIf Plesk suggests wordpress in the path field, remove it unless you want that word in the website address.

Create the WordPress administrator

Enter the site title, administrator username, password, and email address. Use an administrator username that is not admin, and generate a unique strong password.

Choose the current WordPress version. Keep automatic security updates enabled unless you have a managed update process.

Install, then open the dashboard

Review the settings and choose Install. Plesk creates the database and WordPress files. When the process finishes, choose Log in or open yourdomain.ca/wp-admin/.

Confirm that the public website loads over HTTPS before adding content.

METHOD 02 • MANUAL

Install WordPress file by file.

Use this route when WP Toolkit is unavailable or when you need direct control. Create a backup first if the domain already contains a website.

    Download WordPress

    Download the current WordPress package only from wordpress.org. Keep the ZIP file ready for upload.

    Upload and extract the files

    In Plesk, open Websites & Domains → File Manager, then open httpdocs. Upload the WordPress ZIP and extract it.

    If extraction creates a nested wordpress folder, move the contents of that folder directly into httpdocs when the site belongs at the main domain.

    Create a database and user

    Go to Websites & Domains → Databases → Add Database. Create a database name, database user, and strong password. Associate the database with the correct domain when Plesk offers that option.

    Save the exact database name, username, password, and host. The host is commonly localhost, but use the value provided by Plesk.

    Run the WordPress setup

    Visit your domain in a browser. Choose the language, then enter the database details from Plesk. WordPress will create wp-config.php when file permissions allow it.

    If WordPress cannot create the file, follow its on-screen instructions to create wp-config.php manually in httpdocs.

    Finish the installation

    Enter the website title, administrator username, strong password, and administrator email. Choose Install WordPress, then sign in at yourdomain.ca/wp-admin/.

    Attach it to WP Toolkit

    If WP Toolkit is available, return to the WordPress area in Plesk and scan for installations. Attach the manually installed site so you can manage updates, security checks, backups, and login access from Plesk.

WP Toolkit is recommended for most CYD customers because it creates the database, configures WordPress, and keeps management tools in one place. Use the manual method when you need direct control over the files and database.

Leave the path blank when WordPress should open at your main domain. Enter a folder name only when you intentionally want an address such as example.ca/blog/.

The feature may not be enabled for the subscription or server. Contact CYD support before attempting a workaround.

The standard sign-in address is yourdomain.ca/wp-admin/. WP Toolkit may also provide a Log in button that opens the dashboard directly.

WordPress cannot connect using the database details in wp-config.php. Recheck the database name, username, password, and host against the values shown in Plesk.

Do not overwrite an existing website unless you have a verified backup and intend to replace it. Contact CYD support if you are unsure what is already stored in httpdocs.

Use HTTPS, a unique administrator username, a strong password, automatic security updates, trusted themes and plugins, and regular backups.
